NC Junior Sorosis & NC Sorosis

NC Sorosis is the oldest Federated Woman’s Club in North Carolina. Organized in 1895, the club has played a significant role in the betterment of our community and state since its founding. Some early endeavors included the establishment of the New Hanover County Public Library and the purchase of Greenfield Lake by the City of Wilmington. North Carolina Junior Sorosis is a women’s volunteer organization founded in 1938 by N.C. Sorosis. NCS members recognized that their daughters wanted to volunteer also, hence Junior Sorosis, for women 18-45 years old.
NC Sorosis and NC Junior Sorosis are members of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), the world’s oldest and largest volunteer organization. GFWC has over one million members in more than 20 countries.

Proceeds from the event provide scholarships and assistance to many local organizations and families. Some of the organizations who benefit include UNC-W Scholarships, Nourish NC-School Backpack Program, Communities in Schools, Domestic Violence Shelter,Boys and Girls Home, New Hanover Regional Medical Center patients, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, WARM, Cape Fear Literacy Council, Area Volunteer Fire Departments, New Hanover County Schools and Libraries, NC Aquariums, and Airlie Gardens.
